Stop Playing Catch-Up!

I was sorting back through my Jillian Michaels (trainer from NBC’s The Biggest Loser) newsletters and one of her tips really hit home for me. It was nothing I didn’t already know, but sometimes it takes a sledgehammer to really get it! So here it is…

JILLIAN’S TIP OF THE DAY
Commit 100 Percent
To see results in any area of your life, you must be consistent and stay the course. This is especially true for fitness, health, and weight loss. You’ve got to do your part to ensure you’re getting the results you want. If you aren’t consistent, then you’ll always be playing catch-up, and you will make at best some gradual progress rather than getting your body in gear and maximizing results in no time.

I don’t know about you guys, but I find it very frustrating to keep losing the same 5 or 10 pounds. And this is exactly what happens when we aren’t giving 100% to our goals 100% of the time. We get into ruts; we get too busy; we fall back on bad habits; we find our motivation deflated. Been there, felt that!

The best way to combat is to tackle one thing at a time. Give 100% to each choice in front of you and make sure you “weigh” the consequences of your decision. You got the power - now make it work for you!

My challenge to you this week is to pick a small goal – like walking 3 times or drinking all of your water and give it your ALL. Once you master that one, move on to another small goal, then another….before you know it all those small goals are going to add up BIG!

Negative Nelly

Are you a Negative Nelly – always getting down on yourself? It’s an easy habit to fall into and a tough one to break!

Here are some warning signs –

You say things like:
• “I can’t do this”
• “My goals are impossible”
• “Its rude not to eat – they’ll hate me if I don’t”
• “But (insert favorite TV Show) is on…”
• “I’m supposed to be fat”
• “I won’t make it”
• “Its too hard”
• “Its not my fault”

It is a proven fact that those who think positively and really believe they will succeed DO succeed. Those who take a negative outlook often set themselves up to fail. So which one are you going to be??

Here is what you should be saying to yourself and others:
• “I can and will do this”
• “My goals might be challenging, but I am up to it!”
• “No thank you I brought my own snack and some to share”
• “Wow I can record my show and go take a walk”
• “The only thing I am supposed to be is myself – the fat or skinny is up to me”
• “I will make it if I try”
• “Nothing is too hard when you break it down and make it happen”
• “I make the choices in my life and harvest the results of those choices”

My advice is to give your inner Nelly a great big kick in the ass and get going!
